Culture and traditions

Sauris is one of the most fascinating villages in the Carnia area, not only for its landscape, surrounded by woods, extremely green fields and meadows, but also for its cultural wealth and uniqueness, so much so that it is often defined “An island in the mountains”.

An island from a linguistic point of view: in fact, in Sauris, a very particular, ancient language of German influence is still spoken today. It is an island also from a cultural point of view, starting from the traditional festivals focused on legendary characters from the past, to the architecture of the village, characterised by houses built in wood and stone using a unique technique compared to the other mountain towns in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
