We start at Sella Rioda, following a path through a sparse forest of larch and fir trees that quickly leads us out into the open. Ahead lies a long, grassy ridge overlooking the colorful rocky ravines that tower above the main road. We will ascend to the summit of Monte Palonea natural vantage point offering views of the peaks on the horizonbefore descending via Forcella Rioda. From there, passing Casera Rioda, we will cross a secluded valley leading to Sella di Festons, where we will pause to admire the small mountain tarns. On the return leg, we will traverse the wide, quiet slopes of Monte Festons and Monte Oberkofel along the “Orchid Trail.” Meadows, hollows, and pastures follow one another until we return to the foot of Monte Palone, where we can enjoy the view of the long ridge enclosing Val Pesarina, stretching from the Crete di Mimoias to Monte Siera. It is a long, varied loop through landscapes that still retain an ancient, wild character.

At the end of the hike, we can stop to taste the excellent beers from the Zahre Brewery.
