Birrificio Zahre Beer

In Sauris di Sopra, at 1,400 metres, Sandro and Massimo Petris turn their passion for beer into Zahre Beer: a craft beer that tells the story of the heart of Sauris and its people.

Zahre is the ancient name of Sauris, and its no accident that a beer has chosen it. Because Zahre Beer holds all the character of a unique land, in the upper Val Lumiei, among the traditional villages of one of the most unspoilt and fascinating places in Carnia.

Here Sandro and Massimo Petris decided to make a dream come true: to turn their passion for craft beer into a product that tells the story of the land where they were born and where they live. It was 1999, and the idea was simple and bold: a genuine, inimitable beer that reflected the heart of Sauris and its people.

It was never an easy undertaking. Brewing at 1,400 metres, in Sauris di Sopra, means reckoning with the mountain every day. But here an enterprising, creative community has learned to turn its food and wine heritage into something great, and the story of the Petris brothers is proof of it. Zahre Beer is a family business, one of the first farm breweries in Italy to use malt from its own production. And the recipes are always on the move: every year they are refined, learning from Italian and foreign master brewers.

And after the work is done, the beer is best enjoyed in good company, in the brewerys cellar, the Bier Khelder.

Purity and tradition: thats why Zahre Beer is a beer that goes beyond beer.
